This class is open to everyone with a working knowledge of encaustic. The 2-Day Workshop will introduce techniques for creating 2-D and 3-D artwork using textiles and encaustic. We’ll cut, fold, wrinkle, pierce and weave with new and repurposed silk, cotton, rayon and wool. Woven, knitted and unspun fibers will be available for use. Textiles can be used to create an entire artwork or as embedded elements. They can be used to create physical depth and a variety of surface textures. Learn the correct way to adhere textiles to a substrate or armature. We’ll use tacking irons, heat guns and the hot palette to safely and securely fuse multiple layers of wool and wax. Alternative hanging solutions for wall hung sculptural work will be demystified! Choosing forms for use as armature will be discussed. This is a great workshop for people who enjoy manipulating and transforming materials AND working with encaustic paint. There will be plenty of materials to work with! Feel free to bring any natural textile objects, clothing or yardage that interests you.

Day 1: Short demos will be followed by hands on manipulation of materials by participants. Sample boards are encouraged. An assortment of textile options will be provided. (thick, thin, woven, knitted and un-spun)

Day 2: Begin work on a personal idea or continue to experiment and create samples. Receive individual feedback if desired.
