Instructor: Ingrid Songster
Monday - Friday
August 31 – September 4
9am - 12pm
5 sessions
Experience the magic of painting from a live model outdoors. In this class, we’ll explore how to capture the interplay of natural light on the figure — observing color, value, mass, and the relationship between subject and environment. Our focus is on learning to see and simplify what’s before us. Through guided exercises in composition, thumbnail sketches, blocking, and color studies, you’ll develop a clear, step-by-step process for starting and completing a painting. Each session includes demonstrations on materials, techniques, and solutions to common challenges. The study of light is the foundation of representational painting, and working en plein air offers unmatched opportunities to understand it firsthand. By the end of this class, you’ll have new skills and approaches to expand your practice in a supportive, engaging environment. I’m excited to meet you wherever you are in your artistic journey. All levels, styles, and mediums are welcome — though our primary focus is oil painting. Individual attention will be given to each student, addressing your unique challenges and aspirations.
Remember: art is less about getting it right and more about learning how to see.

Ingrid Songster is a New York City-based French visual artist celebrated for her mastery of figurative oil painting, mixed media, and collage. Ingrid’s foundation in classical drawing and painting fuels her distinctive approach: blending precise draftsmanship with dynamic mixed-media elements. Her creative process is rooted in drawing and painting from live models, which she complements with photography and digital composition using professional tools such as Procreate. These methods allow Ingrid to produce layered, expressive works that explore the intersection of traditional technique and contemporary sensibility. She regularly exhibits in galleries and collaborates with interior designers and collectors to place her work in homes, offices, and hospitality spaces.
