This workshop will give the student an introduction to Woven Shibori. Supplemental wefts are woven into the ground cloth of the weave, which are then pulled into pleated patterns in order to create a resist to the dye in the fabric. Woven Shibori has been developed and explored by the renowned teacher, Catherine Ellis.
During this workshop Dahlia will guide you through the weaving process as you weave and create unique patterns by gathering the supplemental yarns in woven shibori. You will each be weaving your own individually patterned cotton scarf on pre warped rigid heddle looms.
At the end of the weaving and pleating process we will dye our hand woven scarves, and once dry, the pattern will be revealed. This is truly a magical moment.
It is recommended that you wear clothing which you do not care about should you get some dye on your clothes. No previous experience is necessary. This workshop requires some dexterity and hand strength in order to properly pull the supplemental pattern yarns.
*A materials fee of $35 will be due to the instructor
