Get ready to explore the magic of watercolor painting! In this art class, kids will learn how to use watercolors and try out lots of exciting techniques. We’ll start by using wet-on-wet painting to blend beautiful colors as we create skies at different times of day—dawn, sunrise, daytime, sunset, twilight, and nighttime. We’ll also discover how to make interesting ground lines and add reflected light to make each painting more dynamic and full of life. Then the adventure continues as we paint different types of weather! Kids will learn how to create rain, lightning storms, windy scenes, fluffy clouds, and falling snow using special watercolor techniques. To spark our imagination, we’ll look at illustrations from children’s books and see how artists bring stories to life with watercolor. Come join me for a colorful, creative week of painting!
Kim Palmer has a Masters degree in Creative Arts & Learning from Lesley College and taught art for 34 years at the Kenneth C Coombs School in Mashpee. She developed an Artist in Residence Program, funded by grants, that enabled local artists to work in collaboration with students to create many beautiful murals. An ISTE conference inspired her love of integrating art and technology. Kim has presented several times with students at MassCUE and the Inspired Learning Convention on using robots in the art room. Her focus is to introduce students to different techniques and inspire them to “create bravely”.
