When we paint a landscape or seascape, we get to make the world our own. The earth bends a little for us, birds fly exactly where we want them, waves can be stylized, and rocks and bushes become expressive shapes of light and shadow. In this workshop, you’ll explore a fun, low-stress, and highly creative approach to landscape painting—one rooted in direct observation but guided by your imagination and memory.

We’ll begin outdoors, painting on site with black and white acrylics to establish values and a strong composition. You will build your piece through applying thin layers of black and white (shades of gray) paint, sanding down and rebuilding as you go—an experimental, playful process that encourages discovery. We’ll also take reference photographs to support your studio painting.

Back in the studio, we will add transparent glazes of oil paint, bringing color, atmosphere, and more personal interpretation to your work.

Daphne will teach her personal technique, starting with initial compositional sketches and moving through multiple layers of black-and-white acrylic, sanding between layers to create depth and texture. Throughout the workshop, you’ll receive individual guidance and direction tailored to your painting.

Please come prepared to work outdoors for part of the time.
