Create copper critters (or jewelry and other objects) and color them with eco-friendly patinas! Workshop participants will use hand tools (tools and instruction provided) and techniques including sawing, filing, forging, hammering, doming, embossing, stamping, and riveting to transform copper sheet and wire into original designs. Techniques for making some tools for home use from items obtained at hardware and variety stores will be demonstrated. We will explore ways to color finished objects with eco-friendly patinas using some common substances (vinegar, garlic, horseradish, aspirin, cat urine, etc.) from the kitchen, backyard and grocery store. (After use these substances can be safely disposed of in the compost pile). At the end of the week, participants will have one or more finished pieces with patinas and a manual of technical notes on eco-friendly patinas. Note: Artists of all ages and all levels of experience in metal-working are welcome in this workshop.
