Collage is a technique of art production where artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, collage creates a new whole. This hands-on workshop explores the art of collage making. We will spend the first day looking at the collage works of Cezanne, Picasso, and Matisse, as well as a number of contemporary artists who employ collage in their work (Corita Kent is a good example of this). The following four days will be a hands-on workshop where participants construct a number of collages that will be available for framing or card making. I will guide participants through a variety of exercises that will encourage them to explore collage from different perspectives. We provide the core supplies (paint, papers and glue) and YOU bring all the trimming (decorative papers, recycled greeting cards, ribbons, candy wrappers - and a whole lot more). This will be an easy-going, "come-as-you-are" workshop.
Michael Walczak is an abstract collage artist living in Wellfleet. His work has been exhibited at a number of local venues as well as Studio 17 at Whalers Wharf in Provincetown.
