You’ve heard from the curators and gallerists about how to get your foot in the door. You’ve heard from the artists and authors (including me) about how to move your career forward. If you feel stuck professionally, it may be that your plan for advancement is not sufficiently well defined or that your priorities are out of order. We’ll start with where you are right now and work out your next three steps. I’ll work with each participant individually in advance of the class so the I can prepare a PowerPoint that addresses each person’s specific issues and needs. Every participant will received focused attention as others benefit from the interaction.

Founder and director emerita of the International Encaustic Conference, Joanne Mattera is a widely exhibited painter who embraces writing in her practice. She is the author of the first commercially published book on encaustic in half a century, The Art of Encaustic Painting: Contemporary Expression in the Ancient Medium of Pigmented Wax (Watson-Guptill, 2001), numerous essays and articles on art, and until recently was editor in chief of ProWax Journal. She is working on her memoir, Vita: A Queer, Italian-American, Art Memoir, to be published by Well-Fed Artist Press.
