This two day workshop is for beginner to advanced artists working in encaustic. It will explore the potential of drawing within encaustic painting. Experimentation, intuition and immediacy will be the focus to expand your drawing vocabulary. On day one, quick exercises will explore a wide range of techniques and tools to add and subtract lines and marks (additive processes such as drawing media compatible with encaustic, the flow pen, masking, transferring line and subtractive techniques such as intaglio, intarsia, using objects to make impressions). On day two, we will develop the panels, building up and breaking down layers to develop a more complex visual vocabulary. I will offer suggestions about play, critical looking and thinking. We will look at other artists work to support the explored ideas and methods. There will be plenty of one to one and group critique.

*PLEASE NOTE: Additional materials list/fees may apply

Joanna Kidney was born in Dublin, Ireland and currently lives in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Through drawing, painting and installation, her work reflects on ideas of temporality and the interrelationship between all living matter. It seeks to make some sense of life- how brief, tiny and complex our lives are and how vast and infinite the universe is.
