Stephen Tarantal’s inventive and joyful approach to form extends from the visual language of American industry to the ever-changing landscape of the Outer Cape. Originally a New Yorker, he first came to Truro in 1971, an experience that became an important source of inspiration for his work.

Working with shaped canvas, Masonite, hardware, and bold color, Tarantal transforms both industrial imagery and natural forms into dynamic, sculptural paintings. His distinguished career includes commissions for major American corporations including AT&T, Smith Kline, McMillan, UNIVAC, and Armstrong Cork, as well as recognition in publications such as Fortune, Graphis, Print, Communication Arts, and Art in America. His work is also represented in the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, along with numerous other public and corporate collections.

This exhibition brings together works reflecting both sides of Tarantal’s artistic vision - his inventive interpretations of American industry and his deeply personal response to the Outer Cape, including its changing skies, clouds, ocean, light, and shifting horizons. Across both bodies of work, Tarantal finds unexpected connections between shape, color, movement, and space, creating art that is at once playful, thoughtful, and distinctly his own.
