In this 5-day workshop we’ll build clay sculpture inspired by animals. We’ll look at a variety of ways of building, but will focus special attention on slab construction. Hannah will demonstrate techniques and materials for creating pattern and color on slabs before building with them. We will explore strategies for preserving the printed clay while transforming it into sculpture.
Students should bring to class the images and/or drawings of animals as inspiration and source material for their work.
Hannah holds an MFA in ceramic sculpture from Alfred University. She has taught ceramics at numerous colleges, and has over three decades of experience exhibiting nationally in galleries and juried craft shows. Her recent work builds on a lifelong passion for the natural world, incorporating careful studies of flora and fauna into pottery and sculpture.
