Instructor: Douglas Green
Tuesday, August 4
1pm – 4pm
1 session
Recommended for ages 10+
Learn how to start playing with your food! I’ll pick up your art supplies at the grocery store or in a garden and you'll make some real fun characters out of them. At the end of the food sculpting session, we’ll make up a story using all the characters you’ve created. Or you can just take your creation home and have it for a snack!
Students should be old enough to wield sharp instruments safely (ie. X-Acto knives). There will be two assistant teachers along with Doug to support in keeping a safe space!
Doug Green first began woodworking in the late 1970’s, making small wooden boxes at his kitchen table, eventually becoming a master cabinetmaker in the prestigious shop of Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers where his love for design blossomed. A few years after earning a master’s degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute, Doug patented an innovative process for sustainable furniture manufacturing. That led to the founding of Green Design Furniture Co. in 1993 in Portland, Maine, where his designs were produced until his retirement in 2020. Currently, Doug is learning how to carve miniature sculptures in the tradition of Japanese Netsuke in his waterfront studio in Portland, Maine.
