Curious about encaustic, but have never tried it or need a refresher? Do you see other enticing workshops, but feel you lack the basics? Join this workshop for an introduction to encaustic painting, and consider taking a more advanced one, as well.

Experience how this ancient and modern art achieves its beautiful luminosity, texture, and durability. Learn about its history, encaustic artists, setting up a safe and efficient studio or workspace back home. Learn basic techniques – creating both smooth and textured surfaces, making marks and gestures, transferring images, pouring, embedding, and more! The workshop is primarily hands-on, studio practice, balanced with demonstrations, visual presentations, and one-on-one consultation. Walk away with 3-4 practice pieces. Leave wanting to learn more!

Edith Beatty is a Vermont artist working in encaustic, oil, fresco, and fiber, with earthy materials such as beeswax, unbleached pulp, sand, and natural pigments. Her work has shown in juried and curated shows in Seattle, New York City, Cambridge, Truro, Portland, Chicago, and all over Vermont. Beatty shares her passion for art by teaching, presenting, and networking with others. She is a member of New England Wax, the Brandon Artists Guild, and several other artist groups.
