As Picasso said, “You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.” Or, you can move further towards reality. In this exploratory and supportive environment, unorthodox exercises will be introduced to broaden the student’s vocabulary and way of seeing. Students will be guided through a series of exercises involving abstracting from nature, using line, shape, pattern, composition, scale and light. Each day produces an intense working mode, utilizing the vitality of each individual’s purpose. Daily critiques deliver insight into how the work evolves. Oil painting is preferred, though acrylic may also be used. This class is recommended for intermediate to advanced students seeking to expand their sensory perception.
