Just about anyone who grows up with stories grows up with love stories. Maybe it's "Cinderella," maybe it's Anna Karenina, maybe it's the tale of your own parents' meeting -- but the tale of love is hard to get away from. How, then, can a writer who wants to tell a love story make it feel fresh and new? And how can we interrogate and steer clear of the tropes of love that we want to avoid in life as well as on the page? In this three-session workshop, which will include discussion, short readings, and generative exercises, we will explore tools and techniques for learning from the tradition of literary love stories while making sure our own are our own.
