How can we use charcoal and paper to ignite or re-ignite our ability to make art? This course will immerse you in working with charcoal on paper to learn gesture, perspective, Hofmann's push/pull theories as well as experimenting with new materials. This course will be implemented in a traditional fashion: ten one minute poses from a nude model begins the day. Then, the class will dive into learning gestural and expressive drawing techniques and concepts using the model and environment as an inspiration and catalyst for art-making. For artists beginning or beginning again.

The instructor will meet with each artist privately to discuss their vision for their art and make a plan for the coming year for their practice

Laura Shabott is part of a core group of artists whose presence and practices - whether visual, literary or performance - ensures the continuance of the Outer Cape as a vital arts colony. Her artistic path in the past thirty years has been circuitous and in 2015 Shabott returned to painting and drawing as if coming home from a long journey. Figure drawing is the foundation of her studio practice and she teaches people how to draw who want to begin making art or being again. Shabott is represented by Four Eleven Gallery in Provincetown.
