Kids Workshops 2010 These workshops are for kids between 6 - 12, for older kids click on the Teen Page! Painting to Music: Creating Handmade Brushes that Dance Glenn Grishkoff June 28 – July 2 Students will learn to assemble a one of a kind hand made brush using
a variety of hairs and bamboo creating both a work of art and functional
tool. After the brush is constructed students will use their unique brush
to paint to the flow of musical sounds on a variety of marbleized rice
paper surfaces. Traditional Japanese sumi ink will be both used to marbleize
rice paper and create a series of paintings. A variety of music will be
played and beautiful paintings will unfold from this physical and musical
experience. Grishkoff will demonstrate his painting techniques using a
variety of his own hand made brushes inspiring students to paint. The
final outcome encourages brushes and paintings to be displayed hanging
together signifying a memorable art experience. KID STUFF: Create a Creature Conny
Hatch $250 Students in this class will spend time putting together amazing creatures.
They’ll have big teeth, ten eyes, and crazy features. Whatever want
to make they can make here: birds with six wings will be no problem! Students
should bring lots of raw materials to work with. Conny Hatch is an artist who had the great fortune of having her Dad teach her how to use all kinds of hand and power tools from a very young age. After studying art with a concentration on ceramics at the Maine College of Art and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, she moved to Provincetown in 1998. A 1999 Castle Hill sculpture workshop with Paul Bowen turned her interest towards working with found and reclaimed materials to create lively and unique sculptures. She has created over 200 sculptures to date which are in collections in the US and England. In 2007 Conny was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in support of her pursuit of her art. Conny’s work can be seen at the Kobalt Gallery in Provincetown and online at www.connyhatch.com Painting for Kids Vicky

Mosaic Workshop for All Ages Tony Silva July 12 – 16 $300 This class will explore the ancient art of mosaics, using regular household tiles to create beautiful enduring designs, patterns, and pictures with bright colors that will never fade. Finished with grout to seal them, these works will be suitable for hanging or permanent installation at home. Appropriate for all ages. Tony Silva is the son of the world-renowned mosaic artist Pedro Silva, and has been working with mosaics since childhood. As foreman of his father’s crew of artists, he has helped create giant mosaic murals, cover cement sculptures with tiles, and restore the famous mosaic benches around Grant's Tomb in New York City. A musician, dancer, and mask maker, Silva brings a wide range of experience to his teaching. www.TonySilva.com Kids Clay Caitlin Nesbit
$275 In this class, kids 7 to 11 will employ methods of building with coils and slabs in various ways to produce functional pots as well as personal sculptures, such as figures and small architectures. Caitlin Nesbit is a Cape Cod native, and she began creating art at an early age; over the years, she has developed a passion for working with her hands, which are often covered in clay or paint. After studying at both UMASS Amherst and UNM Albuquerque, she earned a BFA in Ceramics with a minor in Art History. She taught ceramics at Falmouth Academy for two years, and also teaches workshops at several local art centers including the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cotuit Center for the Arts, and Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill. This is her fourth summer working as a ceramics studio manager at Castle Hill. Caitlin is currently living in Boston and pursuing an MFA in Sculpture at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Stuffed Animal Making: Nathalie Ferrier July 19 - 23
The participants will be invited to make soft sculptures out of fabric and/or stuffed animals and/or clothes. During the first session, we will look at artworks and objects made from cloth or fibers, we will get comfortable with a few sewing techniques and then start creating. Participants are invited to bring any materials (fabrics, ribbons, strings...) that inspire them. They should also bring a sewing kit with threads scissors, pins and needles. Nathalie Ferrier went to fashion school in Paris and
worked as a fashion designer for over ten years in France. In 1995, she
created a toy company, Born To Be Wild LLC and sold her stuffed animals
and toys to many Museum stores around the USA. She has a MFA from MASSART
and teaches a fiber/art class at Cape Cod Community College. She also
teaches a stuffed animal workshop at the Truro Central School. Diorama and Nest Julia
Salinger Albert Einstein said that "Imagination is more important than
Knowledge." I would say that the imagination is the portal into the soul. We will use this idea as a way to guide us in creation of our unique fantasy constructions. Have you ever dreamed of building your own nest? Someplace magical and fun that is a true expression of yourself. Together we will use manmade and organic materials to construct a special place of one's own.

$275 In this class we will take finger painting to new heights and explore the realm of nature's tools to create mark making. Did you know that Vincent Van Gogh made some of his most magnificent pen and ink drawings with a pen he fashioned from a reed in the marsh? Many other artists have ditched the brush and have worked with sticks, stones, and other natural implements to make beautiful works on paper, canvas and wood. We will go into nature, collect fun tools and make art. See bio above Printmaking for Kids Vicky
Tomayko Explore your own ideas and have fun learning a variety of printmaking
techniques including monotype (one-of-a-kind prints), simple etching,
stencil, and relief prints. We will be using non-toxic water based inks,
and professional printing presses and equipment. Experimentation and the
accidental nature of working with a new process is part of the excitement
of printmaking. You'll be amazed how many works you can produce and how
you can vary them. Ages 7 to 11. See bio above
$275 In this class, kids 7 to 11 will employ methods of building with coils and slabs in various ways to produce functional pots as well as personal sculptures, such as figures and small architectures. Linden Gray has been a studio manager at Castle Hill for the past year and has been very involved in the building and firing of the new wood kiln. She has been throwing pots for 10 years and holds a BFA from Alfred University. In her work, she is interested in the material nature of clay, which is often reflected in her wet altered work. Primarily working with functional forms she is interested in exploring notions of use. Pinhole for All Ages Martin R. Anderson August 23 - 27
