In this 1 day workshop, students will learn how to do a proper pour to prepare for transferring.  Students will also practice transferring a variety of other media besides photos, such as oil pastels, charcoal, and foils.  To embed images, an alternative “overpour” will be taught.  We will embed (in one or more layers) rather than transfer, images printed on silk, silk tissue, commercial printed tissue, and sumi paper.  These two techniques may be combined in a single work, extending the visual appearance of dimension.

An additional materials fee will be due before the workshop.

 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sherrie Posternak takes advantage of all of her life’s passions-- making and teaching art, travel, learning about other cultures, learning new languages. Everything involves communication and the integration of the variety of life’s disciplines. Within the context of the arts, Sherrie chooses whatever medium or technique is most appropriate to express her ideas—encaustic, photography, printmaking, video, collage, assemblage, mosaic, paper, fiber, metals, wood, ceramic, glass.  She began her encaustic practice 10 years ago (www.sherrieposternak.com), and has had solo and group shows in the U.S. and Mexico. She has taught workshops in beginning, intermediate and advanced encaustic processes including image transfer and working with mixed media.  She self-published a catalogue on the topic of her art installation “A Memorial for El Tomate.” Images of Sherrie’s work is in the gallery section of the E-book “Contemporary Paper and Encaustic” by Catherine Nash, and Volume I of Linda Robertson’s revised E-book “Embracing Encaustic.”
