Castle Hill’s NEW Ceramics Studio Cooperative is available to all levels--inquisitive beginners to experienced potters. With your support and participation we expect the New Ceramics Studio to develop into a dynamic place for students and co-op members to pursue their personal growth, while continuing to inspire and promote excellence in Castle Hill’s Ceramics Department. We encourage artists to work and learn together and what better way than through a cooperative environment?

The Castle Hill Ceramics Studio houses 13 wheels (including 1 kick wheels), a slab roller, banding wheels, plaster molds, hand-building equipment & an extruder. Additionally, we have 3 electric kilns, a large new beautiful Baily gas kiln, 1 raku kilns, 1 wood kiln (the only wood fired kiln on Cape cod and soon a newly built salt kiln (workshop with Donovan Palmquist June 1 - 6, 2010.

Ceramic Cooperative members also receive a 10% discount on ceramic workshops at Castle Hill (please remind the registrar when you sign up for a class).

Membership

The Ceramic Cooperative is available for beginners to experienced potters. Your membership gives you access to the studio, tools, equipment, glazes and limited firings.

$75. Cape Residents (if the Cape is your permanent residence, i.e. you vote here, then you qualify)

Ceramic Shop Use Fees:

Monday – Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 
Limited evening hours available by appointment with the studio manager. We will try to be flexible.

The ceramics co-op is closed on weekends.

The co-op is also closed during scheduled workshop classes and holidays including but not limited to: Columbus Day, Veterans Day, the day before/after and including Thanksgiving Day, the week of Dec 26th – 30th, Martin Luther King Day and Presidents’ Day.

Please refer to bulletin board postings for additional closing times. Make-up dates are available for members to reschedule time lost due to workshop conflict hours and holiday closings (full session members excluded). Contact the ceramic co-op coordinator.

Ceramic Cooperative supplies include:
• Use of the pottery wheels
• Use of studio space
• Storage for work
• Use of tools and equipment (limited supply of wheel bats)
• Bisque firing included in the price of the clay

Supplies you must provide:
• Personal tools
• Wheel bats
• Apron or towel
• Closed toe shoes

Firings:
• Bisque firing is included in the price of the clay ($20.00 for 25# bag; $25.00 for porcelain)
• Low Fire Glaze: firing $35 for approximately 6 – 8 pieces depending on the size
• High Fire Glaze: Gas firing $100 for approx. 10 – 14 pieces, depending on the size
• Raku Firing: To be scheduled with a studio manager 
$85 for the first firing and $35 each additional firing.
• Other firing techniques by arrangement with Studio Manager

Ceramic Co-op Individual Instruction

• Co-op membership required for individual instruction. Refer to rates on page 1.

• Private Wheel/Throwing Instruction: Minimum 12 hours at $50 per hour = $600 (paid in advance) – student will need some prior throwing experience to qualify.

• Once the instructor feels the student is prepared (hopefully after the 12 hours) the student can rent studio time as part of the Ceramics Cooperative.

• Student will be provided a list of materials to bring

Ceramic Cooperative Expectations

• Be thoughtful of others. Respect the space and keep it clean. Return things to their proper place and pick up after yourself. Wash the table covering, if necessary. A number of members will be using the work space simultaneously so please, at the end of the day clean your work area and leave your work in the designated area for drying.
