This course will offer a look into what it means to draw perceptually/observationally in and as this present world. We will look at how the human-built world and how what is referred to as the natural world are organized and how these are an expression of one another. We can recognize inspiration through this process of seeing and drawing.

Ray Dicapua currently makes large-scale, intricate drawings that investigate the relationships between imagery and the processes of perception, recognition, and meaning making. DiCapua’s exhibition venues include: The National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC; the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO; the Museum of Southwest Texas, Corpus Christi, TX; the Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA; Kansas State University’s Chapman Gallery, Manhattan, KS. His work has been further supported by grants, awards and fellowships including two MacDowell artist residencies, Millay Artist Colony collaborative residency, and Vindolanda Roman Fort/Chesterholm Museum, Northumberland, UK for a collaborative artist residency. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Art and Art History since 1984 where he teaches drawing and sculpture.
