This 5-Day workshop will be an exciting introduction to the amazing possibilities of combining wheel throwing and slab building. This course is for both the experienced and the beginner looking to approach clay in a new way. Wes will walk through his own studio practice, utilizing the wheel to generate forms to work with slab construction methods. The course will have you sketching through ideas, learning wheel throwing techniques for both complex and simple forms, and slab construction. Wes will cover both functional and sculptural considerations. Come and learn new ways of combining within the world of ceramics.

Wesley Brown is a ceramicist who combines wheel throwing and hand-building to create one-of-a-kind ceramics vessels. Raised in the Midwest, Brown always saw the need for utility. It was during undergrad at Bowling Green State University and later in grad school at Indiana University that Brown was challenged to leave utilitarian vessels to better communicate through clay. In the subsequent years he has taken what he learned in making large scale sculptures and sought to bring it to the kitchen table. In joining his sculptural sensibilities to the functional needs of pots, Brown creates unique works that are both striking to the eye and comfortable in the hand.
